TF-Cyberverse-2018-Volcanicus

Volcanicus is not what you'd expect from a massive combiner robot. They're youthful, inexperienced, nimble, and even chatty, and are as likely to have a hilarious pratfall, splitting up into their form's component parts, as they are to achieve an awe-inspiring victory worthy of a titan. Victory is so novel to Volcanicus that they're not immune to performing a little victory dance immediately following.

Volcanicus can sometimes tap into molten-infused powers that can surge through their body and massive sword. They are the combined form of the five Dinobots:

Grimlock and Arcee raided the Tomb of Nexus Prime on an uncharted planet, and one of the artifacts they retrieved was the Enigma of Combination. Unaware of the relic’s true purpose, Grimlock merely planned to use it as a decoration. When Arcee and Grimlock returned to Cybertron, they found the entire planet locked in time. Grimlock encountered the Dinobots, who had followed the time-freezing Immobilizer Gang to Cybertron, bent on revenge.

When Grimlock and the Dinobots retreated to Grimlock’s shuttle following a disastrous battle with the Mercenaries, a curious Snarl picked up the Enigma of Combination, and when the shuttle spun out of control, all of the Dinobots touched the Enigma, spontaneously combining into Volcanicus. This tore the shuttle apart, and the combiner fell to the surface of Cybertron where they separated into their constituent Dinobots. Bewildered by their momentary collective consciousness, the Dinobots realized that it was the Enigma that caused them to merge, and intentionally repeated the process, forming Volcanicus once more. The gestalt reveled in their combined might, but tripped over their own feet the moment they tried to take a step, falling apart once again. The Dinobots persisted, and quickly got the hang of walking. Grimlock then built an obstacle course designed to help the team train in their combined form. Volcanicus took to the challenge with enthusiasm, but was met with considerable difficulty. Grimlock was ready to give up, but the other Dinobots convinced him to try again. Braving the obstacle course again, they succeeded, and in doing so discovered that their combined form contained a sword. In need of protection against the freezing effects of the Time Blaster, Swoop directed the Dinobots to construct a shield for Volcanicus that could nullify its effects, which Volcanicus was very happy to add to their arsenal.

Volcanicus reached the Mercenaries, who were in the process of destroying Soundwave with an infinite resonator. They charged into battle, and demanded that the Mercenaries return Cybertron to normal. Soundblaster turned the Time Blaster on Volcanicus, who deftly blocked each and every shot. The Mercenaries attacked from all sides, and Nightbird temporarily blinded Volcanicus, who swung wildly and freed Soundwave from the infinite resonator. Though they nearly became overwhelmed by the Mercenaries’ attacks, Volcanicus fired a volley of missiles and grabbed Afterburner out of flight, and proceeded to imprison the now-incapacitated Mercenaries inside their own trailer. Delighted with their success, Volcanicus did a dance. When Trypticon arrived and fired his crew, he offered the Dinobots the chance to replace them. This offer was refused, and the Dinobots reformed Volcanicus to challenge the criminal. Trypticon engulfed the gestalt with his flame breath, but the fire only made Volcanicus stronger. Trypticon swiped at Volcanicus with his tail, which separated the combiner and flung the Dinobots away. After reforming, Volcanicus slid under Trypticon’s attack and climbed up his tail, being thrown into the air and plunging their sword into Trypticon’s neck. They once again celebrated, again prematurely, as Trypticon once again rose, throwing Volcanicus away, and they separated and scattered. Swoop found the discarded Time Blaster, and the Dinobots reformed, and used the Time Blaster to freeze Trypticon in place, separating to celebrate their victory. Following the restoration of Cybertron, Grimlock introduced Arcee to the Dinobots, and they formed into Volcanicus once more to celebrate the signing of the peace treaty. The Immobilizers

After being kicked out of the council meeting for being too annoying, the Dinobots roamed the streets of Iaconus and offered to demonstrate their combining abilities. Hot Rod took them up on the offer, and they combined into Volcanicus, impressing Hot Rod. Hot Rod shot a blast of flame at the combiner, and they absorbed and reflected it back at Hot Rod, further impressing him. When the Decepticon supersoldiers arrived and began to fight each other, Wheeljack supplied the Autobots, including Volcanicus, with gadgets intended to stop the fighting. The gadgets were effective, but the supersoldiers merely teleported away and continued their conflict. When Tarn reprogrammed the supersoldiers, Volcanicus held them off while other Autobots retreated. When the Autobots and Decepticons attacked Tarn’s forces, Volcanicus teleported above Tarn to attack him, and saved Soundwave from the supersoldiers encroaching on him. They continued to carve through supersoldiers, and helped Whirl, who was very grateful. They were overrun and pinned down by overwhelming numbers, however. Volcanicus looked on in shock following Soundwave’s sacrifice, and the individual Dinobots attended his memorial. The Perfect Decepticon

Cyberverse[]

  • Cyberverse Ultimate Volcanicus
    Volcanicus (Ultimate Class, 2021)
    • Accessories: Sword
Released as part of the Dinobots Unite subline imprint for the fourth year of the Cyberverse toyline, Ultimate Class Volcanicus is a big and simple toy that transforms from robot mode to a dragon-esque beast mode and features an Energon Armor gimmick. While in robot mode, pull down on a section on either side of the torso, and the Energon armor will flip over the top of the toy, placing helmets on both the robot and beast mode heads. Even though the toy represents a Dinobot combiner, it can not be disassembled into its individual components. Like the other Bumblebee Cyberverse Adventures Ultimate Class toys, it uses a "Twist-N-Change" transformation. While in beast mode, if a latch on the back is pressed, the torso portion spins as the knees upright themselves into robot mode.
Stock photos of Volcanicus are mistransformed, depicting their beast mode hind section uncompressed. Like many later Cyberverse toys, Volcanicus was not officially revealed and was found via online listings. Of note, the toy's cross-sell incidentally revealed Ultimate Class Hot Rod.
