"Before time began, there was the cube. We know not from where it comes from, only that it holds the power to create worlds, and fill them with life. That was how our race was born. For a time, we lived in harmony, but like all great power, some wanted it for good, others for evil. And so began the war, a war that ravaged our planet until it was consumed by death and the cube was lost to the far reaches of space. We scattered across the galaxy, hoping to find it and rebuild our home, searching every star, every world. And just when all hope seemed lost, message of a new discovery drew us to an unknown planet called... Earth... but we already too late."

Autobots Decepticons

"Freedom is the right of all sentient beings" Optimus Prime My Favourite Autobot.

Optimus Prime

For generations, Optimus Prime ruled Cybertron side-by-side with Megatron. The two personalities created a balance; Prime was fair while Megatron was firm. However, when Megatron revealed his intentions to steal the All Spark and use it for evil, selfish gain, Prime reacted accordingly. He built a militia from the civilians around him, but they faired terribly against Megatron's armies. Ultimately, Prime was forced to eject the Allspark into space to keep it from his nemesis.

Bumblebee is one of Optimus Prime's most trusted lieutenants. Though not the strongest or most powerful of the Autobots, Bumblebee more than makes up for this with a bottomless well of pluck and determination. He would gladly give his life to protect others and stop the Decepticons.

Hand over your driver License"

Badly damaged in a conflict with Megatron, Bumblebee lost the ability to speak verbally, though he can still communicate over inter-Autobot frequencies (in a fashion that seems somewhat akin to instant messaging, a useable but more distant and less personal means of interaction).

First Lieutenant Jazz is one happy-go-lucky Autobot. Good-natured and always able to take things in his stride, he provides a decent contrast to the more serious demeanour of Ironhide or Prime himself. He's also a talker, something Ironhide and Prime like to tease him about. He might be the smallest Autobot but he's by no means a coward. His only real complaint is that he gets stuck fighting the small ones.

Ironhide is the Autobot's resident weapons specialist and Optimus Prime's old friend. He is old because he is hard. He's probably had enough replacement parts to build a small army, but Ironhide doggedly refuses to roll over and die for anyone. He'll fight to the bitter end and take down more than his fair share of Decepticons in the process.

Ironhide doesn't always see optic to optic with Prime, despite their friendship. He's perhaps the more practical of the two, and more than a little trigger happy, so he can be more willing to push to Autobot code to the limit if he thinks it will get the job done faster.

Ratchet, the Autobots' medic, is probably the bravest of them all. He'll risk his life to pull any wounded comrade from the battlefield. Indeed, he did not join Optimus Prime's team to be a soldier; rather, he's there to save lives, and thinks Prime is the best chance the universe has for peace.

Barricade is apparently a complicated robot. He's considered "fractious" even by Decepticon standards, yet is willing to give Starscream the benefit of the doubt and follow where he leads, at least for the time being. Though not totally dedicated to the service of the Decepticon's current leader, he is much more cautious and reserved about expressing mutinous dissent than say most. In many ways this makes him Starscream's closest ally in the naturally combative Decepticon ranks. Then again, it's been said that he likes to trick people into trusting him, just so he can see their reactions when they find out just how much of a bad idea it was.

The massive Blackout has been described as the hound of Megatron. In better days he was always to be found looming powerful and silent behind his leader's right shoulder. When given a target he hunts it down with fierce determination. Blackout is not happy with the progress Starscream is making towards finding the missing Decepticon leader. He suspects (quite rightly) that Starscream would prefer Megatron to stay lost. Blackout is openly mutinous and will challenge Starscream's leadership at any opportunity, not for his own sake, but to better serve his ultimate goal of finding his lost master. Blackout has a sneaky side and uses his symbiotic companion Scorponok's small size to great advantage.

"I will let them order me now so I can shoot them later." Blackout my favourite Decepticon

Bonecrusher is Transformer that can be described with one word: Hate. Bonecrusher hates this wiki. Bonecrusher hates the fact that his toy is so small. Bonecrusher even hates amusingly appropriate Avril Lavigne quotes. Basically Bonecrusher hates everything and everyone, particularly buses, and lives for the day when all of creation is crushed and destroyed beneath his feet. His overwhelming anger and hatred extends even to his fellow Decepticons, including Megatron himself. Only fear of Megatron keeps him on their side. Plus, he really hates the Autobots.

To say Brawl is a warrior is like calling Cybertron a hunk of metal. Brawl does not just enjoy fighting, he is consumed by it. Tearing Autobots apart is embedded into his very core, and every fiber-optic cable of his being is obsessed with wild, unyielding combat. The only thing he enjoys, or even cares about, is the fury of battle. And he loves a good explosion. Particularly if it's one he created, and if it was an Autobot that is exploding.

Frenzy is small, sneaky and... likes to keep up on current events. He's a hyper-articulated, hyper-active, sentient evil alien shape-changing robot from outer space that turns into various small electronics devices depending on the situation at hand and a penchant for pantsing people. But he doesn't shrink (because that would be unrealistic), so he's quite a good contortionist. He's not that tough without his head, and he loses it frequently. In short, he's a creepy little abomination, with an irritating habit of reading over people's shoulders and jibbering at lightning speeds in his own tongue.

The brother of Optimus Prime as well as former Lord High Protector and co-ruler of Cybertron, Megatron is vicious and extremely powerful, single-minded in his goals, straight forward and brutally direct in his attempts to seize those goals. He is all "blunt force" in contrast to Starscream's penchant for deceit and trickery. On the downside, Megatron tends to become so obsessed with the object of his desires that he can ignore "secondary" matters and glaring flaws in his plans (otherwise, he likely wouldn't have melted into ice-cold arctic water after being white hot from re-entry and spent millions of years as a popsicle).

"Peace through tyranny!" !

MovieBlackout promorender

"Do not call the helicopters if you know what is good for you"!

While some merely dislike or disregard organics, Megatron feels a violent hatred towards them and seems to view them as only slightly above a virus, with him as the cure. If there was no Allspark, it is not that big a stretch to think he'd have come here anyway, just to cleanse one more planet of its infection.

Scorponok is a small transformer with a symbiotic connection to Blackout. Barely sentient, his main drives are to hunt, destroy, and hunt some more. Since he can tunnel underground with frightening speed, he's incredibly good at ambushing.

Starscream is all ego, vanity, and self-interest. He will do anything to hang on to power or attain more. Though powerful, he is at heart a schemer, contemptuous of Megatron's reliance on brute force. Starscream believes that lies, manipulation, and deceit are a superior path to power.

Rachet: "I sense the Decepticons are getting ready to mobilise." Ironhide: "They must know it's here as well." Jazz: "What about Bumblebee? We can't just leave him to die and become some human experiment!" Optimus Prime: "He'll die in vain if we don't accomplish our mission. Bumblebee is a brave soldier... this is what he would want." Ironhide: "Why are we fighting to save the humans? They're a primative and violent race." Optimus Prime: "Were we so different? They are a young species, they have much to learn... but I've seen goodness in them. Freedom is the right of all sentient beings... you all know there is only one way to end this war. We must destroy the cube. If all else fails, I will unite it with the spark in my chest."

The Transformers are a species of [[wikipedia:sentience|sentient robots (mostly) originating from the planet Cybertron.

Though this is the most common term for them, there are others, mainly "Cybertron" as a reference to any being whose origin traces back to the planet in question (the adjective form being "Cybertronian").

The name Transformer stems from the species' generally-shared ability to "transform," to change from a robotic primary mode (usually, but not always, humanoid) into an alternate form, generally vehicles, weapons, machinery, or animals. In some continuities this ability to transform is innate to all members of the species, in others it was a wartime innovation that was adopted by most, but not all, Cybertronians.

Transformers are living beings, despite their (usually) mechanical bodies. Many continuities portray this life as being granted by a soul-like spark.

Traditionally, Transformers are fully-mechanical beings, but by the Beast Era of the Generation 1 continuity family synthetic flesh has become increasingly incorporated into their construction, often to aid in disguise or survival on worlds inhabited by organic lifeforms. (A version of this technology had been introduced earlier with Pretender Transformers, though in that instance the synthetic flesh was a removable outer "shell").
