Universal City Studios LLC, doing business as Universal Pictures or Universal Studios (or simply Universal) is an American multinational film production and distribution company owned by NBCUniversal, a division of Comcast.
Founded in 1912 by Carl Laemmle, Mark Dintenfass, Charles O. Baumann, Adam Kessel, Pat Powers, William Swanson, David Horsley, Robert H. Cochrane, and Jules Brulatour, Universal is the oldest surviving film studio in the United States; the world's fifth oldest after Gaumont, Pathé, Titanus and Nordisk Film; and the oldest major film studio in scope of the cinema of the United States, best known as "Hollywood", in terms of the overall film market. Its studios are located in Universal City, California, and its corporate offices are located in New York City.
Universal Studios is a member of the Motion Picture Association (MPA), was one of the "Little Three" majors during Hollywood's golden age and currently one of the "Big Five" along with Paramount Pictures in Hollywood.
Universal's division for independent films and foreign films is Focus Features. Universal's divisions for animation are Illumination and DreamWorks Animation.
Universal is the film studio and home video company that holds/held the license for Transformers: Prime in the UK.
Universal also owns a multinational amusement park chain, which its locations in Florida, California, Singapore and Beijing have Transformers: The Ride 3D.
Universal also have distributed live-action film adaptions based on Hasbro trademark properties, Battleship, Ouija and Jem and the Holograms.
Hasbro have a part in the plot of the movie, Ted 2, which it was distributed by Universal, which it's the 2015 sequel to the hit 2012 adult comedy-fantasy film, Ted, also distributed by Universal. Both films were directed by Seth MacFarlane who is also the creator, the voice and motion-capture for titular character.
