I have mixed feelings on this page. It has some new content, but seems sort of redundant with other stuff that's already in the Help namespace, such as the notes on Help:Contents. I feel like it could just be merged (to some balance we can decide later) with the pre-existing help pages. I realize that "Policies" is a sort of standard page for wikis to have, but, that doesn't mean we have to do it the same way. --Steve-o 02:12, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
- True. Mostly I wanted a place to put coherent statements of certain key issues (humor, copyright, etc) that we end up having to explain frequently.
- I agree about the redundancy, but the help page is already redundant with the style guide (and certain elements of the community portal.) Since it wasn't clear where this should go, and the redundant pages clearly need a major housecleaning anyway, I stuck this on a Wiki-standard Policies page knowing the all 3 (4?) pages are probably going to end up unified rearranged and reorganized at some point. Is there any way to have "fuck" and "cunt" not immediately visible? Like, you have to click-and-highlight the text to read it? It just seems a little fucking odd to say we don't use those words on non-talk pages then boom, there they are plain as day. It makes us look like cunts. --M Sipher 03:18, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

- I think it's worth looking at. The idea that kids might stumble upon the wiki - not at all unlikely, I think - and think it's a cool place to browse around, only to stumble upon something like, well, the above... it bothers me. --Sntint 06:20, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
- Wikipedia doesn't use mouseover-spoilers setups because they don't work for a small portion of browsers- leaving the spoilers permanently (and frustratingly) obscured. (And in the case of screenreaders for the blind they don't obscure them at all- searing underage ears with horrible spoilers/profainity!)
- While I'd find it odd for TT1's small uderage audience to find their way to our policy page-- your point is well taken. I recommend changing the links ot read "The f-bomb and the c-bomb," everyone knows what they are. Browsing various pages here, it occurs to me that new fans, or fans who missed major chunks of the franchise over the years, might really be left in the dark by overuse of funny captions. Not everyone has seen everything we've seen; heck, not even all of "we" have seen everything the rest have seen. Just to draw a random example, and not to single out anyone--Evac. Like probably a lot of people, I watched only a fraction of the Unicron Trilogy. I can't instantly identify lots of characters and I sure as heck don't associate screencaps with storyline events. And honestly... as years go by, that's going to be how a lot of people deal with the Beast era and thereafter as well. I guess my point is to suggest people re-examine articles they've made or contributed to and try to see if there really is room for confusion about what the image shows--and if so, just make a "real" caption. People aren't going to want to read the entire article in order to glean the context necessary to figure out what's really going on. I'm as guilty of this as anybody, hence why I'm about to go fidget with protohuman too.... at least there I do know what's going on. --Thylacine 2000 16:31, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

- I agree with this in principle, though I think the "Dinobot's accesories" protohuman caption, combined with the body text, was adequately informative. I would ask, however, that when you make such changes, you include your reasons in the summary field, so's we don't have to guess why some funny went away. JW 20:11, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
