I have not betrayed. I have deceived. Have you forgotten, Optimus... that I am a Decepticon?
~ Tarn telling Optimus that he had deceived, rather than betrayed, and his famous words.
3156

Tarn is a Decepticon Supersoldier who had became Leader of the Perfect Decepticons. He was once simply a nameless drone, but no longer. With a mind of his own, his missing arm and battered state belies his sheer strength, though it pales in comparison to his deceptiveness. Living up to the symbol he wears on his face, Tarn deceives those around to accomplish his one goal: to surpass Megatron by finishing what he started. Much like the great leader he replaced, he fancies theatrics in front of a large audience to prove his capabilities and that of his army. If he did not believe other Decepticons would follow in his peace-destroying footsteps, Tarn would have been, or maybe still is, the Perfect Decepticon.

In another universe, Megatron used the power of Vector Sigma to create a race of Decepticon Supersoldiers. One of these soldiers evolved beyond his programming and named himself Tarn. He had, at some point, killed his universe's Soundwave.

Following Megatron's demise, the supersoldiers began fighting each other for leadership. Tarn was attacked by two other clones and escaped to another universe that Megatron had previously attempted to conquer, with the other supersoldiers in pursuit. Despite the Autobots and Decepticons restraining his pursuers, Tarn shot them with his cannon, claiming they posed a threat to everyone. After attempts to stop the fighting between the supersoldiers proved fruitless, Tarn offered a solution in the form of the Cortex Helm.

Tarn accompanied a small group of Autobots and Decepticons to find Thunderhowl, who led them to Onyx Prime's invisible floating island. Upon reaching the Cortex Helm’s chamber, Tarn stole the helm and reprogrammed the Decepticon supersoldiers to obey him. He then gave the other Decepticons an opportunity to join him.

Tarn brought Optimus Prime to an arena to fight his minions while rekindling the civil war between the factions. He sent wave upon wave of his soldiers to fight Prime until he was overwhelmed by superior numbers. Tarn intended to execute Optimus until Prime was saved by a group of Autobots. Tarn then ordered the Decepticons to attack, but they refused, sparking a battle between the combined Cybertronian factions and the invaders.

Tarn took the fight to Optimus himself while beaming in more forces. Having captured everyone, he gloated and again attempted to execute Prime. Hot Rod attempted to steal the Helm, but was beaten by Tarn. Soundwave arrived with Laserbeak and stole the Helm for himself. Tarn soon retrieved it, but Soundwave responded with a huge sound blast, killing Tarn while sacrificing himself. The Perfect Decepticon
