Main Image choice

Is the main image relly the best one of Springer? Surely his MTMTE or box art image would be better? As much as I would hate to lose the funny........Drmick 15:53, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Dude, it's a great image. What's wrong with it? We already rely far too heavily on MTMTE images, as has been discussed elsewhere. Any time we can get a good representative image from a source that's not box art, MTMTE, or a character model, we should do it. -- Repowers 16:31, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
His boxart is awful, and his MTMTE image is when Don was clearly burnt-out from drawing practically everybody in MTMTE, so I back up Repowers on this. --FFN 16:41, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
I agree as well. Variety is the spice of life, and all that. --Xaaron 16:49, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
I disagree that the MTMTE image is poor. However, the reasons you have given for not using boxart or MTMTE is that they are poor. If so, does that mean if I find a better official image, it will be accepted? Drmick 16:51, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
Fair use only goes so far, and right now, half of the G1 characters are using MTMTE art, either because there's lack of images we can use or its a particularly good piece of art or the only other art is crap. In this case, the MTMTE art isn't great and the other available image is pretty cool.
Oh, and IDW is reprinting the MTMTE books (for some reason), so we have even less leeway to use images from them. --FFN 16:54, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
1) You will be hard-pressed to find an image that's better, includes one of his alternate modes, AND actually demonstrates his action-hero persona at work.
2) There are lots of other character pages that have no images at all. Why not focus on that instead?
3) Why do you hate awesomeness so much? -- Repowers 16:55, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
1) I will give it a go!
2) Who wants to play with the crap characters?
3) Beauty is in the eye of the beholder! Drmick 17:16, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

I'm just going to throw in my support for NOT using MTMTE art whenever we have another good choice. I like this art a lot. And you'd goddamn better beleive that characters whose pages have no images whatsoever is more important to work on than adding more/alternate profile images to characters who already have plenty. Much of the whole damn POINT of the wiki is to shed light and spread information on the obscure. And I put it to you that many of these obscure characters are far more interesting than much of the 84/85 cast that gets all the love. --M Sipher 18:08, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

Er, I tell you what. If you can name TWO characters who do not have art from G1 on this wiki, and who are more interesting/pivotal/prominent than the 84-movie cast, I will upload whatever comic art I can get on them. Drmick 10:52, 21 June 2008 (UTC)

Does anyone else have a proble with:

Springer is the archetypical rogue; handy in a fight, always ready with a helping hand or a joke to lighten the situation. Someone you can depend to ride in, save the day and be smug about it ?

That's not a description of how I'd think of an "archtypical rogue." I'd say such a character would be sneeky, stealthy, prone to backstabing (rogue's do it from behind, remember) and acting outside the law. That's not Springer at all.

If anything Springer is the "archtypal action hero". Agree/disagree?

By all means, make the change. He's han solo, who is a a rogue though, not a hero. arguably, he elements of Han which do not translate to springer make Springer mcuh mroe action hero-y. But I think that the rogue one-man-act-hates-being-tied-down thing nicely addresses the differences in Springer's personality in different continuities. Happy and carefree when he's jsut a warrior, sullen and angsty when he's commending the Wreckers. (he seems to have been a ceerier fellow before he took Impactor's place too, backng up that reading.)
Of course, while that all returns to hsi archetype... it's also all explicitly spelled out in his bio. Change it to Action Hero.-Derik 01:09, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, it's weird but somehow true: Han Solo is a rogue. Springer is Han Solo. But Spriner is not a Rogue. Basically he keeps much of Han's roguish personality while loosing the actual being a rogue. I'll fix. :)
I removed the bit about Springer being relieved to miss out on Autobot leadership. While true in FFoD, I somehow doubt he was relieved at the outcome of 'Peace'.
(Fun Fact, the UK Letters Page says that Peace is in the same timeline as the Aspects of Evil future. ) -Derik 02:48, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
I'd always thought he was like a Han Solobot, and I'm glad I share this sentiment with everyone else. If not, is he like Indiana Jones? --akindofdrifter
