Revision as of 16:47, 6 September 2008

Should the human Ginrai,a nd the Autobot Ginrai (Who becoems Victory Leo and LioConvoy) have seperate entries? What about Shuta Goh and Goshooter?

I mean- they becoems seperate characters at one point. (It's a footnote thign for the others, but kidna big deal for Ginrai.) -Derik 01:51, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

Dreamwave

Man, I totally forgot that in Dreamwave continuity, Optimus Prime's Powermaster is named Ginrai. And he's a scientist dude, like Hi-Q. This will be messy. --ItsWalky 15:15, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

Haaactually... IIRC... wasn't his named spelled "Jinrai"? That's enough of an excuse for a separate article to avoid the mess in my book! :) - Chris McFeely 16:29, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
If you're talking about the Dreamwave dude, it was Ginrai, just like the American reissue's name. --ItsWalky 16:17, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
Aw, phooey. Wonder why I thought it was spelled with the J...? (EDIT: Tsk, not signed in.) - Chris McFeely 16:29, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
Ehh, throw in a note int he Dreamwave section noting he's signifigantly different in DW continuity.
Hey McFeely, I've been meaning to ask, does Digimon Savers get any less... shite after the first episode? -Derik 16:57, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
Well the thing is, Dreamwave/reissue Ginrai is just Hi-Q with a different name. The MTMTE profile has Hot Rod describe him as "a brilliant scientist and programmer... he can be a little stuffy sometimes, but he's a pretty stand-up being." Furthermore, he's a Nebulan. --ItsWalky 17:07, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

Victory Leo

Maybe Leo should have his own seperate article. For example, he's the same character as Ginrai in the cartoon, but completely seperate in the manga. Plus, there's enough content in regards to Leo to fill an entire article of his own. --DrSpengler 22:34, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

I'll trust your judgment on this. Go ahead! --ItsWalky 23:11, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
I vote separate on the grounds of manga-dom. --M Sipher 23:35, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
Mmn, I figured that'd be how we'd roll, but at the time I had a good flow going and just really couldn't be bothered to stop and make two articles. :) Well, it's basically all written now, anyway, and just needs moved over. When anyone is bothered. With some pictures. - Chris McFeely 23:47, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

Toys

Why is Ginrai's toy called a "remold of Powermaster Optimus Prime" when all the evidence seems to point to the contrary? I would go in and change that right off, but I want to make sure no one's going to object and switch it back before I do.--MCRG 07:04, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

We know for a fact that Powermaster Prime was the first version and Ginrai was the modified come-after. There have been interviews and concept art to this effect. --ItsWalky 07:41, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
The concept art contradicts that, judging largely on arm design (even the PM Prime mock-up in the '87-'88 catalogs for PM Prime use the Ginrai arms, for instance). I don't know of any interviews; I'd very much like to be redirected to them. Granted, this is a somewhat convoluted situation given that the toy was designed purely as Prime, but to say it's a remold of the actual final release of the PM Prime toy seems to be incorrect.--MCRG 08:25, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
As far as I remember, Prime was originally supposed to have a bunch of stuff Ginrai ended up with, but it was too cost prohibitive, so Hasbro simpled it down. Takara later re-added that stuff. This was corroborated in... something. Maybe Monzo will remember. --ItsWalky 08:55, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
I would love to see pics of the various prototype PM Primes, especially the ultra gimmick-laden multiple-master version, if only to have some pics to space out the ultra-long trivia section in the Optimus Prime (G1) toy section. --FFN 09:34, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
I think the wording that might more appropriate here is "a different mold" rather than "remold", but I desperately want to get ahold of whatever interviews possessed by Monzo (or whoever).
I actually cut the PM Prime toy trivia short since there's LOADS of it (three pages devoted entirely to just him in Generations Dlx), sticking only to what actually pertains to the released toy. There's a page full of sketches for a design begun in 1988 that was going to bring Prime in line with the futuristic '86+ aesthetic that I didn't even touch. It's barely recognizable as Prime, and I wouldn't have known it was him if I didn't have some of the captions translated and did some character comparisons. I'll throw a scan or two up eventually and a patent screenshot for the old stuff.--MCRG 04:45, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

Jinrai or Ginrai

Um, I'm not sure what I know is correct or not, so I wrote down in below:

  • "Jinrai" is the correct pronunciation of this character whose name is "ジンライ". (I'm sure this is definitely correct.)
  • "Ginrai" is the official English name for the Godmaster "ジンライ" in the market.
  • Hi-Q's name is changed to "Ginrai" thanks for the trademark issue.
  • Dreamwave/reissue "Ginrai" is "Hi-Q" instead of the Godmaster "ジンライ".
  • Thus makes that there are two "Ginrai", one for Jinrai, the other for Hi-Q.
  • By the way, is "ジンライ" translated into "Jinrai" or "Ginrai" in DVD?
Err, does anyone knows which is correct and which is wrong, because I get little bit confused. Thanks a lot. :) --TX55 10:10, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
Originally, either was correct. "Ginrai" is the English spelling used in the opening credits of Masterforce, which is why it's so widespread. I can't vouch for how the DVD spells it, as I don't have that. I personally prefer "Jinrai" because it's less ambiguous, but ever since "Ginrai" was used on the PMOP w. Apex Armor bio, we've been stuck with that officially.--Apcog 15:08, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
We went with "Ginrai" on the DVD, too. - Chris McFeely 15:30, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
Um, I think I understand much clearer now. Thanks a lot! ^_^ --TX55 16:23, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

Featured article

Wow, great work, Chris McFeely and everybody else who worked on this. Given its apparent total completeness (fiction, toys, images), I recommend we make this our new featured article, either right now or whenever we move. --FFN 12:52, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

I do not disagree with the sentiment put forward by this handsome, handsome man. - Chris McFeely 16:29, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

Not quite done
