I can't tell you how glorious it is that we have to disambiguate "Toaster" on this wiki.--UndeadScottsman 22:08, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

It made my morning. I went to check something on the MD website and-- "wait,t here's a new commercial? With more new characters?" -Derik 22:10, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Realgear or not realgear that's the question.

What differs between Toaster and Frenzy that make one a Real Gear, and the other not. Or has frenzy to be classified a Real Gear too? Or is Toaster in fact not a Real Gear? The debate is now open!

Frenzy? Frenzy is a Decepticon from Cybertron. Real Gear Robots are Earth machines brought to life by the Allspark. I don't think Toaster belong in the RGR category, though. Even though I'd say it's likely that he is an Earth machine brought to life by the Allsaprk, we should only use the RGR category for the toyline. --KilMichaelMcC 01:16, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
Real Gear, for reasons previously stated on the Talk:Real Gear Robot page.
Hardcore movie spoilers (i.e. reading the novelization) present a clearer picture why than readily apparent from the Real Gear Robots toy bio. -Derik 01:18, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
Since the number of people who are willing to spoil themselves just to check your work is going to be extremely limited, I'm not really okay with you having free reign over stuff like this for a month while we wait for the movie to come out so we can edit out all the Derik. I say put the novelization aside for now. --ItsWalky 01:25, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
Hrm... how to argue this without movie spoilers then...
Fine, I substitute the Real Gear Robot AX9-8946-09SU-1 from the Sector 7 ARG (the one who killed James Farr) as a non-spoilery example of the phenomena. Unliving Earth hardware animated by the Allspark starts out as a feral killing machine. Toaster is thus one step along the path from AX9-8946-09SU-1 to the fully-mature, individualized RGR toy characters. -Derik 01:31, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
Why must it be argued immediately? Can we not completely ignore the novelization and adaptation comic until the movie comes out, and only use other sources, such as the toyline, until then? If we end up wrong, then we can fix it when it's appropriate. Such is the way of a "living" resource. --Sntint 01:37, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
I would add "how do you know for a fact that Toaster was born on Earth, Derik?", seeing as Toaster was from Cybertron, but I don't want to see another string of spoilers added to this page. -Rotty 01:41, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

I have been thinking along the lines of: While all "Real Gear Robots" are Earth machines brought to life by the Allpsark, not all Earth machines brought to life by the Allspark are necessarily "Real Gear Robots." That we should only label as Real Gears things that actually, officially have that label. --KilMichaelMcC 01:27, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

I understand that is your perspective, but the definition of RGR's given for the line is 'Machines animated by the Allspark.' minor spoiler below.
In the movie we will (apparently) see a cell phone animated by the allspark. It is demonstrably not Speed Dial 800. But is SD800 is a RGR... why the hell isn't Unnamed Cell Phone #2 a RGR? -Derik 01:35, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

Various points:

  1. Unless there is another convenient term for "Earth machines brought to life by the AllSpark", I strongly disagree with restricting use of the term "Real Gear Robots" only to characters from the toyline. We need a term for it, and that one already exists and is official.
  2. We should not put characters into the RGR category unless we know they are RGRs. That means Toaster should not be categorized as one, at least until all the dust settles in a few months and we all have a much clearer picture of the continuity family.
  3. The article itself should state "He may be a RGR". Phrases like "most likely" or "probably" should be avoided. They don't add any meaning and are obviously contentious.
  4. Derik should stop re-adding the category unless he wants to get a temporary ban over it. Endless reverts against the consensus are uncool, no matter how strongly you feel about it. PacifistPrime's block was over something not much worse than this.
  5. Anybody who disagrees with any of the above is dumb.

Generally speaking, anyone who disagrees with Steve-o is dumb. I tip my king on the issue- for a month until there is a better basis from which to reach an informed consensus. (Until everyone has seen the movie has a basis from which to judge the situation.) -Derik 01:47, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

Actually,he does have an official name. His Designs refer to him as "Toaster Bot" . I don't think it's worth moving the page,i'll add some redirects instead. 18:49, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
