This guy is freaking awesome.--Dynamus Prime 04:48, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

What are you basing that on?  ;) -Derik 05:24, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
If Hasbro announces a toy based on a Dreamwave or IDW oiginal character AS SOON as the character is announced, you know he's gonna be freaking epic.

That, and he's the longlost mechanical brother of Samurai Jack.--Dynamus Prime 16:00, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

I still say this 'Drift' guy is like somebody vomited japanese pop culture stereotypes into Transformer form. Dynamus, I feel that I should mock you for using slang such as 'freaking epic'. --FFN 16:05, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
I think he deserves mocking because his username is "*-imus Prime," but that's neither here nor there. -hx 20:03, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

It's just Boss's body in an exceptionally boring deco for a supposed "drift" racer, with Cybertron Override's head. I have a nasty suspicion we're looking at a canonized Echowarrior deal here. My apathy is palpable. --M Sipher 17:44, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

Glad I'm not the only person who noticed that this guy is just Boss. What's an Echowarrior? EDIT: Never mind, I just googled it. Another badass self-insertion character. Great. Just fucking great. --FFN 18:10, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
So I take it there's designs online somewhere? And a profile...?
(Also thos article, is currently an orphan. All Hail Megatron should probably link to it, but- er- I lack a cite.) -Derik 18:12, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
As David said, he's KEWL, in presumably the mocking way we know and love David for. --FFN 18:15, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
And profile snippet of sorts in a Newsarama interview: http://www.newsarama.com/comics/080725-SDCCIDWTformers.html
"Drift has quite an Eastern outlook on everything and follows the ethos of 'be like water'. He's calm, collected but also capable of significant acts of violence."
(To which my initial reaction was, "Didn't Transformers: Animated beat you to the punch for that sort of character?") Jeysie 18:24, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

Let me guess: this guy is a badass wandering samurai robot. He probably has a sword and is cool and collected and kicks a bunch of ass and knows kung-fu and doesn't afraid of anything. I'm SO excited. Why couldn't we just get an existing character to shoehorn this personality onto? What's Manta Ray up to these days? How about Double Clutch? -hx 18:32, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

I don't think a 1-sentence character capsule provides sufficient basis to dismiss the character. Just because he sounds like something Pat Lee would think is awesome doesn't mean he'll be written that way.
(Thanks for the links.) -Derik 18:34, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
I just wnat to know what story role could possibly require introducing an all new character to the series rather than just using a different Totally Badass Autobot Toughguy. I hear Rapido's looking for work. -hx 18:37, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
Manta Ray already has a personality. He makes puns. Bad puns. (Which makes him the only G1 character to have any discernible personality at all in the comics.)
Double Clutch I will grant you. -Derik 18:37, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

How about this? Drift is Wreckers Devcon crossed with Ninja Rick. --FFN 18:47, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

Done as a light comedic romp, I'd read that. Drift thinks he's the baddest motherfucker in the galaxy, but he basically is the TF equivalent of Groo. -hx 20:03, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
"Oh Drift-Chan, you smell awesome, and not at all like feet!"--RosicrucianTalk 20:05, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
Dear God, yes. Let's hope he either ends up being executed well or executed badly enough to be laugh-worthy. If he falls in the gray area in between...

Hot Rod: "Am I gay yet?" Drift: "A ninja does not sheath his sword until it has drawn blood."--Dynamus Prime 20:14, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

Man..... you guys just jump the gun on anything. I don't even KNOW where to begin..... alright. First, we have gotten tricked out "ricer" cars before in Transformers like Decepticharge and no one WAHHHHed about it. 2nd, so he shares Boss's transformation slightly, like we never had 2 TFs share a similar design before!? WAHHHHHHH!!!! 3rd, you can't base a character on less then a sentence of description..... WAHHHHHH!!!!!!! 4th... Japanese culture? Your talking about a toyline that came from Japan, is mostly DESIGNED in Japan, most of it's shows animated IN Japan..... Oh TF fandom..... why I hate thee....... - Angry Botcon Staff Member

What does BotCon have to do with a IDW comic character? —Interrobang 23:05, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
Plus... I can't speak for anyone else, but my take is - there's already so many cool-sounding characters that have never or barely gotten used, that I'd rather see stories with them instead of a totally new character unless there's just absolutely no existing character that would fit. (And while I'm no pro writer, I tend to find that whatever role I happen to need for my own stories, there almost always seems to be some existing character that fits...)
And Hasbro making a toy of a character that hasn't even gotten page time yet, designed by a writer brand-new to writing for TF... it's just really weird to me. Jeysie 23:10, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

Hell, if there's an IDW character that needs a toy, it's Nova Prime. In either of his color schemes.--RosicrucianTalk 23:16, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

You're Chatting Too Much

This wiki is a reference document, not a chatroom. The Talk pages are for discussing how to improve the wiki. The User Talk pages are for requesting and receiving advice (and admonishments) about how to improve the wiki. They're not for random fandom chatting.

If you want to discuss Transformers with like-minded fans, we recommend other sites, such as Seibertron.com, Transformer World 2005, or The Allspark.

And yes, we hate this image, too.

Take it to a message board, folks. -- Repowers 00:37, 29 July 2008 (UTC) , flexing his new admin muscle just a tiny bit.

No, screw you! :P Drift deserves to be made fun of, and besides, most of us don't even post on the same forums. --FFN 01:52, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
I don't post on any forums. I got used to intelligent conversation on ATT, and every time I check out a forum to see if it'd be worth getting involved in I see, like, a 3 page thread of people disagreeing about whether or not Optimus Primal was the same character as Optimus Prime. (And I know that idiots happen- but the people saying he wasn't were arguing their stance as opinion, not saying stuff like- "Dude, Master Blaster makes that completely impossible.")
Threads like that = 4 more weeks of winter. -Derik 03:39, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
ATT has intelligent conversation? —Interrobang 04:10, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
But ROOOOOOB! We have a reputation to maintain as snot-nosed arrogant jerks who think they know what's best for the fandom! How can we keep it up if we don't openly trash shit on the wiki? -hx 15:25, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

Move?

I'm not sure I get why this page was moved to include "(Autobot)". Is there a G1 Decepticon called Drift, or something? —Interrobang 18:56, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

Nope. Moving it back. Chip 21:05, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
Whhhhy? It needs to have a parenthical because of the Armada episode, "Drift". - Chris McFeely 21:23, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
Not all possessors of a name need to have a parenthetical. Of course, I think I can agree that the Armada episode is the more identifiable "Drift" when one considers that who we have at the default now didn't even have an article until he was announced at Comicon.--RosicrucianTalk 21:34, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
I disagree. If there are two things that would be identical without the parenthetical, they should both have parentheticals. --M Sipher 21:36, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, just got an edit conflict when I was about to say the same thing. Is there any other instance where we haven't give a parenthetical to something that shares its name with something else? - Chris McFeely 21:38, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
Then shouldn't the parenthetical be "(G1)", in consistency with almost every other character article? —Interrobang 21:41, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
I think people are getting confused by the redirect- though all disambigable articles should have parenthetical disambigs- the non-parenthetical article name can point to the more prominent one. -Derik 21:53, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
