Takara Tomy (often doing business as Tomy) is a toy company based in Japan, established in March 1, 2006. It's a merger of two Japanese toy companies, Tomiyama Toy Manufacturing Company (富山玩具製作所) (aka Tomy Co, Ltd.) (established in 1924) and Takara (established in 1955). Before the eventual merger, Takara was the producer of Transformers in Japan and still is after its merger with Tomy and design much of the engineering for Transformers toys. They have produced numerous toys for Transformers: Prime and Transformers: Robots in Disguise.
Even before their eventual merger on March 1, 2006, both Takara and Tomy have very strong relationships with the American multinational toy company, Hasbro.
