Soundwave was originally supposed to feature in Transformers, first as the character who would become Blackout, and when he was reimagined, as the one we know as Frenzy. However, Hasbro's insistence on a musical themed alt mode, and the divergence of Frenzy's character resulted in his being cut. As the second film began production, Roberto Orci first announced his desire to include Soundwave in the sequel, with the character being confirmed in an interview given for SciFi.com.
