Kindly and well-spoken, Shockwave is a well of empathy. An older bot, who uses his massive arm-cannon as a cane more than as a weapon, works to build bridges between beings. Compassionate and wise, he lets his spark lead him, whether as a Senator or as the Decepticon ambassador to Earth. Even attempts to curb his nature by his enemies have only made his empathetic nature more powerful, to the point of overwhelming him. While his compassion leads to his use of a defensive fighting style, his firepower is more than capable of taking down any Autobot who threatens those he protects. Occasionally, he is accompanied by an aide, the drone Fistfight.

Now that's how you pick up chicks. After mistaking Cliffjumper for his universe's Cliffjumper, Megatron mistakenly believed that his time in the Rad Zone had damaged his circuitry, and noted that perhaps they should have Shockwave take a look at him. Shattered Glass

When the Decepticons got a two-way stellar spanner going between Earth and Cybertron, Megatron assigned Shockwave to Earth as an ambassador. Shockwave arrived at the base on Earth and was greeted by Starscream and Professor Arkeville. He was particularly interested in talking to Cliffjumper, and hearing more about Primus. Shockwave attended the unveiling of the Mega-Rig, aiming to meet R.J. Blackrock and Senator Shore. When a group of Autobots attacked the ceremony, Shockwave acted only in defense. The human Sephie Beller came under threat from Seaspray, and Shockwave acted quickly, taking the missile which would surely have killed her.

Though he was seriously damaged, he survived and was taken back to base for repairs. Sephie blamed herself for his injuries and got herself upgraded with Cybertronian technology. Though the other Decepticons didn't approve of it, Starscream's scans of her tech provided several vital tips to boost Shockwave's self-repair, saving his life. He was soon on his feet, albeit unsteadily, and greeted Sephie when the Decepticons brought her back to base. Transhuman

My God, I'm overcome with...feelings! I'm experiencing a powerful yearning to...to cram my gullet full of mackeral heads!

A senator before the Great War, Shockwave was a political rival to Orion Pax. Shattered Glass #2 Knowing that Pax was using Ultra Magnus's knowledge of the law to build a power base, Shockwave frequently visited his old friend to try and dissuade him from helping Pax. After dodging reporters Laserbeak and Flashbox, Shockwave ran afoul of Magnus's new personal guard, admonishing them for actively intimidating the press. Despite Magnus's attempts to defuse the situation and defend him, Shockwave's derogatory comments about the group resulted in Impactor attempting to start a fight with the Senator. After Magnus violently resolved the dispute by throwing Kupinto the insubordinate Autobot, a disgusted Shockwave asked the now maskless Ultra Magnus if he had been unable to stop the fight or too cowardly to admit he didn't want to. Shockwave was later present on the day that Magnus launched a terrorist attack on the Senate building, responding to his old friend's challenge to him on the Senate floor. Shockwave made another attempt to appeal to Magnus' better nature only to be beaten and knocked unconscious by the fallen lawman. At Orion Pax's order, Ultra Magnus then took Shockwave to undergo empurata. Shattered Glass II #1

Though the procedure was meant to remove Shockwave's emotions, it ended up backfiring, causing his empathy to consume him. When Cybertronian society devolved into open war, Shockwave joined the Decepticons and took part in the fighting on Earth before the Decepticons were forced to retreat back to Cybertron.
