Scraplets

The DTs are no laughing matter.

Scraplets are alleged to be the deadliest disease known to mechanical lifeforms in the entire galaxy. A single Scraplet resembles a tiny robot that can transform itself into something that appears to be a harmless nut or bolt, but they can self-replicate with incredible speed and embed themselves en masse into the skin of a mechanical organism, and over time, digest the victim nat by nat. Crater Critters

There is no known cure for Scraplets other than a legend that claims a "rare chemical" was once discovered (and subsequently forgotten) that could kill them.

Raf holds a seemingly benign scraplet

Scraplets are tiny creatures (every Scraplet is the size of a cat). They have very large spherical heads, glowing purple eyes, four small spindly legs, and two small pincer arms. Their large, in proportion to their body, head is almost all mouth with three concentric rows of teeth. They also display the ability to fly. Their vision is depicted in a manner similar to infra-red.

While on a mission to the Antarctic, Bulkhead and Bumblebee find on a crashed ship a group of Scraplets encased in a frozen pod. They bring it back to their base, unaware that it is thawing when it arrives.

Rafael found a Scraplet when he accidentally tripped over it. It was seemingly docile upon its finding, so he decided to show it to the other Autobots. When he did this, the Scraplet attacked Bulkhead, Bumblebee, and Rachet, only to be destroyed by Raf after Bumblebee flings it off him.

Eventually, the rest of the swarm attacks the group of defenseless, injured Autobots at the base. Rachet then activates the GroundBridge and Bulkhead uses himself as bait. The bridge leads to Antarctica, the location of a freezing Optimus Prime and Arcee. They try to attack the two, but end up freezing before they can. Scrapheap

Later, a swarm of Scraplets are sighted on Cybertron, near the Vector Sigma Chamber. It is shown here that they can tell Vector Sigma apart from a possible meal, though they see the download port for the Key to Vector Sigma, and attempt to chew through it. However, Jack used the Insecticon that found its way into the chamber as bait for the Scraplets so he could finish downloading the wisdom of the Primes onto the key; the Scraplets easily chewed through it and caused it to fall down into the pit below.

Earlier, outside the chamber, a single Scraplet is seen chewing on Arcee's foot. Orion Pax, Part 3

Notes[]

  • While they have their jaws open, they make noises similar to the tools used by dentists.
  • As well as being able to fly, these pests possess a small rocket thruster that allows them to boost to a fast moving target, such as fleeing Insecticon.
  • In Rise of the Dark Spark, Scraplets were mentioned by Jazz and Optimus Prime of Kolkular's turrets are only meant to shoot off Scraplets that even Megatron must contend with pests.
