Specifics: Savage
The name or term Savage refers to more than one character or idea. For a list of other meanings, see Savage (disambiguation).

This article is about Savage/Noble, the amalgam of Megatron's organic components separated from his technological components. For the said manipulative soul, see Megatron (BW).

Savage/Noble is an organic transforming creature who befriends the Maximals in the Beast Machines portion of the Generation One continuity family. He is also known as Beast Changer.
Noble

Van Helsing-uh, sorry, i thought you were someone else.

Savage/Noble is the only known altogether organic Transformer. A fateful battle between Optimus Primal and Megatron had Megatron's organic half separated, of which was Savage/Noble. Incidentally, Megatron's spark was trapped inside the organic half he hated with a passion. Nevertheless, Savage/Noble remained online and became a distinct being in his own right after Megatron's spark was removed.

His humanoid mode, Noble, is a werewolf-like creature; his altmode, Savage, is a dragon-like creature with no hind legs. Stripped of Megatron's mind, all that is left is basic animal instinct and he acts as such. He forms close bond with Nightscream akin to that between a boy and his dog.

Fiction[]

Beast Machines cartoon[]

Voice actor: David Kaye (English), Yūichi Nagashima (Japanese)

Thrust and Jetstorm were ambushed by Savage, causing them to blame the Maximals for the attack. But they soon learned of Savage as the feral creature charged them. Tracking Savage, the Maximals stumbled upon Noble who claimed to be a survivor of the Vehicon invasion. He was quickly accepted by the Maximals as one of their own. They would later find out that Noble and Savage are one beast-to-beast Transformer. Savage Noble Being led to Council Citadel by Noble, the Maximals decided to check out the citadel. Noble showed his true colors when he unexpectedly applied two spark extractors to himself and downloaded his spark into a giant floating ship. Savage/Noble was nothing but a ruse by Megatron to rid himself of his organic half. Prometheus Unbound Savage/Noble remained online but was left with only basic animal instinct. He would still have attachment to Nightscream, helping where he could. In Darkest Knight Sparkwar Pt. II: The Search Savage/Noble met his fate when he attacked Megatron in defense of Nightscream. An enraged Nightscream avenged his death by defeating Megatron. Savage/Noble's death was mourned and his sacrifice was honored by the Maximals. Sparkwar Pt. III: The Siege

Beast Machines[]

Crouching Dragon, Hidden Werewolf.

  • Beast Changer (Deluxe, 2001)
    • Accessories: Wings
Since Hasbro couldn't secure the trademark on Savage/Noble, the toy was released under a rather generic name: Beast Changer. Savage is a two-tailed dragon-like creature with red, yellow, and blue deco. Pressing a tab near his head would open his mouth.
Noble is a red and blue werewolf-like creature as opposed to the blue Noble in the cartoon. In order to complete his transformation from Savage to Noble, his wings in Savage mode have to be detached. However, keeping the wings would give Noble a "demon wolf" look as shown in the cartoon. In addition, the blue underneath of Savage's wings corresponds well to the blue deco on Noble. Savage's head becomes his kibble in this mode since it is folded back and rests on Noble's hunchback. His spark crystal is unique because it is a merger of Beast Machines Maximal and Vehicon insignia. Noble's main gimmick is wind-up spinning claw attack. He stands surprisingly well on his small feet thanks to his kibble and heel spurs.

Beast Wars Returns[]

  • Noble Savage (Deluxe, 2005)
    • Japanese ID number: BR-11
    • Accessories: Wings
A slightly more show-accurate version of Beast Changer was released in Japan as part of the Beast Wars Returns toyline. It was released under the name Noble Savage and was a Toys "R" Us exclusive.

Notes[]

  • Given the Beast era's focus on spark being the life force of a Transformer, it is debatable whether Savage/Noble, after Megatron's spark was removed, is still a Transformer.
  • Savage is doubtlessly the organic components inherited from Megatron's dragon half; it is unknown where the organic components for Noble originated. Some fans have surmised a connection to Silverbolt's altmode as he, for some reason, lost the wolf-like aspect of his beast-mode, but no hard evidence in the cartoon supports this notion.
  • His toy's on-package bio posits a micro-continuity where Savage/Noble is a sentient being with a Tech Spec intelligence of 8.7. He is quoted as saying: "Science has yet to match the force of Nature - allow me to demonstrate!" and is a "self-proclaimed" outcast.
  • A sub-line of beast-to-beast Transformers was later released with the title Beast Wars Mutants, but Beast Changer was not part of it.
  • The concept of a purely organic Transformer is identical to this man's vision.
