Dr. Paul Gates

Dr. Paul Gates is an American scientist working for Quantum Laboratories, where TORQ III was built. He was worried that TORQ III was built too smart for humans to control. You see, the wrong people could get control of him.

The Transformers cartoon[]

The wrong people got control of TORQ III and took control of Quantum Labs, trapping Dr. Paul Gates and a colleague inside. Dr. Gates was able to get a message out to Optimus Prime, who was able to get close enough to TORQ III to deactivate him. Later, Dr. Gates told Prime he probably wouldn't reactivate TORQ III until he could be made absolutely tamper-proof. Day of the Machines
