Grimlock is the second-in-command of the Build Team and a seasoned warrior. Though harsh-looking, he is rather calm and upbeat, and is actually the team's best tactician.

- In Japan, the entire Build Team set of Wedge, Heavy Load, Hightower and Grimlock was made available. The toys included were identical to the individual Takara releases.

- A mainly-yellow redeco of the entire Build Team was released as a Walmart exclusive in November of 2003, as a multi-pack released on "Black Friday", the day after Thankgiving, the most hellishly overcrowded shopping day of the year. The set cost considerably less than four individual deluxes.

- Unlike all of his another incarnations before and after him, this version of Grimlock doesn't transforms into a Tyrannous Rex or any animal, instead he transforms into an excavator, a construction vehicle and he's the second-in-command of an Autobot subgroup, instead of leader that subgroup. Also unlike some of his other incarnations, he has a more humbler personality and doesn't refers himself in the third person.
