Griffith Observatory is a place in the Movie continuity family.
Movie GriffithObservatory Arrival

Bumblebee, Sam Witwicky and Mikaela Banes watch the arrival of the Autobot protoforms on Earth.

The Griffith Observatory is a big and fancy-looking, well, observatory (who'd have guessed?) presumably located in Los Angeles, California, in the United States of America (see trivia). Occasionally, it serves as a place for well-intentioned alien robots to regroup and plan their next moves.

Movie GriffithObservatory Autobots

"Hiding in plain sight" takes on a whole new meaning.

Bumblebee drove Sam Witwicky and Mikaela Banes to the site of this closed observatory to watch the arrival of the Autobot protoforms. After Bumblebee and his human friends were captured by Sector Seven, the remaining Autobots regrouped at the observatory to discuss their next move. Transformers (film)

Trivia

  • In the real world, Griffith Observatory is located within the city limits of Los Angeles, California. There's nothing that would explicitly contradict the possibility of it also being located there in the movie, although that would make it rather doubtful that Sam Witwicky's home town of Tranquility is located in the state of Nevada, as claimed by various movie-related media (but not the movie itself).
  • Initially, the owners of Griffith Observatory were reluctant to allow the crew of Transformers to film there, as it was undergoing a major renovation at the time. However, they relented, as Susan Bay, a relative of director Michael Bay, and her husband, Leonard Nimoy, made substantial contributions to the funding of Griffith.[1]
