Gort is a Nebulan Headmaster partnered with the Autobot Highbrow in the Generation One continuity family.
Gort MTMTE

Klaatu barada nikto!

The all-American boy of the Nebulan Headmasters, Gort rose up from a lowly position as stable boy to courageous defender of his planet. The idealistic teenager never has an unkind word for anybody and serves as a shining example of the best the Nebulan Headmasters have to offer.

It's a pity, then, that Gort was partnered with his polar opposite, the elitist snob Highbrow, who takes considerable offense to being binary-bonded with what he sees as a mere commoner. Their pairing is among the worst of the Autobot Headmasters, often detracting, not adding, to Highbrow's effectiveness in combat as he refuses to listen to Gort's suggestions except in all but the most life-threatening situations.

Fiction[]

Marvel Comics continuity[]

(Events from the UK stories are in italics.)

Kissprimitiveform

Hi, folks, I'm Highbrow and—what the...?

Searching for the inhabitants of the planet Nebulos to give them Fortress Maximus's message of peace, Gort's future partner, Highbrow, interrupted the young lad and his girlfriend Marita engaged in what the Transformer called "a primitive form of communication". Gort panicked and, in his haste to fight off the monster for his lover, tripped and fell into a small pit. Smooth. Ring of Hate!

Durosdefendmyplanet

Err...Duros, I think the least you can do is wear pants.

When the Scorponok-led Decepticons arrived searching for the Autobots and threatened the planet, Gort and four others agreed to undergo the binary bonding process, choosing to combine with Highbrow. Broken Glass! These new Headmasters were able to fend off the Decepticon attacks, until the Decepticons themselves underwent the process, capturing and imprisoning Gort and the other Autobot Headmasters. Love and Steel! Realizing the effect the escalating conflict was having on Nebulos, Lord Zarak released Gort and the other prisoners in an attempt to save the planet. Brothers in Armor!!

Highbrow and his fellow Headmasters were captured by the Decepticon Targetmasters as part of a scheme by Scorponok to discern the flaws in the Decepticon Headmaster process. Scorponok chose Highbrow as the subject of his experiments, Highbrow being unable to fight back as his mind and Gort's were struggling for supremacy, until Chromedome arrived and managed to convince them to work together, forcing Scorponok to flee. Worlds Apart!

After the upgrade work on Fortress Maximus was completed as the Steelhaven travelled to Earth, Gort and Duros both questioned Galen's intentions and almost power-hungry preparations for war. Trial by Fire!

Lured into Scorponok's clutches by Nebulans hypnotised by Mindwipe, Highbrow battled the Horrorcons, but was defeated and also hypnotised. While Highbrow thus suffered from amnesia, the Decepticons attempted to convince him that they were on his side. Gort, however, was unaffected, and when he recombined with Highbrow, the two ripped off Scorponok's head. All in the Minds!

Much later, during Unicron's attack on Cybertron, Gort and Highbrow accidentally got into Cloudburst's way and made him steer into the path of Unicron's flame-breath and explode. This caused the Headmaster duo to lose it and perform a full frontal assault on Unicron, who clapped his hands and crushed them. Whoops. On the Edge of Extinction!

Cartoon continuity[]

Voice actors: Michael Bell; ?? (Japan)

Unlike the description in Highbrow's bio, the animated Gort was the leader of the Nebulan rebels, as well as being one of the oldest in the group.

Toys[]

Generation One[]

  • Highbrow with Gort (Headmaster, 1987)
Gort transforms from an armored humanoid into a robot head. Though he only came with his partner, Highbrow, in head mode, he is compatible with any other Headmaster body. On the larger Headmasters, he gives three of Highbrow's Tech Spec stats in their display window, but the smaller ones still display their normal heads' stats due to their construction.

Notes[]

  • "Gort" is the name of the robot from the famous sci-fi film The Day the Earth Stood Still.
  • Gort is the leader of the Nebulans in the cartoon. This would make Highbrow as the leader of the Autobot Headmasters in the cartoon although the idea was from Brainstorm.
