Darkwing is a major antagonist in the 2024 animated film Transformers One.
He's a loyal soldier who only swears allegiance to Sentinel Prime and the corrupt government alongside Airachnid. As a member of Sentinel Prime's empire, he is well-known to be a strict controller who supervises the Energon Miners.
He was voiced by Isaac C. Singleton, Jr., who previously voiced Soundwave in the High Moon Studios video games
Background[]
Tasked with maximizing the productivity of the miners under his supervision by any means necessary, Darkwing keeps Iacon's Energon flowing by heaping insults, humiliations, and casual violence upon his subordinates. He really hates being upstaged by the miners he looks down upon, and has a tendency to hold a grudge. While outwardly nasty and vindictive, Darkwing secretly fears the possibility that someone else might force him to suffer the same indignities he inflicts upon others.
When a sudden cave-in occurred at the excavation site during a mining operation, Darkwing had Elita-1 unfairly fired and removed her from her rank of mining captian, demoting her to waste management for the disaster. For this, however, Orion Pax told off the brute, pointing out that Elita shouldn't be punished for what was ultimately Orion's fault. He then flips off him only for Darkwing to reply with aggression. D-16 caught Darkwing's punch and attempted to smooth things over, only to earn a punch of his own from the larger bot.
Darkwing later participated in the Iacon 5000 race. Seeing the same two cogless miners from before in the race as well, he blew past them in his vehicle mode, the impact damaging their jet packs. He soon made it to third place, but abruptly found himself used as a jumping pad for those very miners, which caused him to spin out and crash into the track despite his yell of rage. Though Sentinel Prime himself appeared to praise Orion and D-16, promising them lush rewards for their efforts in the race, this turned out, unbeknownst to both of them, to be a trap, as Darkwing, possibly under secret orders by his leader to throw the miners into the waste management into sub-level 50 of waste management as punishment, despite their loud protests and flew off with a snide comment.
Unbeknownst to Darkwing, this act would lead to Orion and D-16 to start the beginning of Sentinel's downfall, as the duo would find a distress beacon from Alpha Trion and Elita-1 and B-127 in helping them find the Matrix.
Later, receiving new orders from Sentinel Prime, Darkwing has forces the remaining miners to work overtime with double shifts to get more Energon, without so he could not give them any breaks or repairs, resorting to intimidation or threats. When one of the miners, Ironhide, confronted him and protested against the punishing work schedule, Darkwing angrily threatened to beat him up. However, he was stopped, punched and knocked into a arcade game by a bigger and upgraded Orion Pax.
It is unknown what happened to Darkwing afterwards, as he was never seen again.
Personality[]
As the cogless miners' supervisor, Darkwing was openly racist and looked down upon them due to them not having transformation cogs. Tasked with maximizing their productivity of mining energon by any means necessary, Darkwing was not above hurling insults or using violence to keep them in line. He also has some degree of callousness, as he pins the blame for a cave-in incident on Elita-1, overlooking the fact that Orion Pax had defied protocol by choosing to save Jazz. But most of all, Darkwing had too much of an ego, as he got upstaged by Orion and D-16 during the Iacon 5000 race; despite ultimately beating the duo in the race, he was still unhappy at the miners, to the point he dragged them all the way to sublevel 50 to fulfill his selfish grudge.
