Convergence is a 4-part prose story written by John Barber as exclusive content of the individual issues of IDW Publishing's Dark of the Moon comic book adaptation. It is not included in the trade paperback collection of the adaptation. The two intertwining storylines—intended to fill in the gaps in the timeline—explore the continuing story of the Simmons family via plot threads left dangling after the earlier Sector 7 comic, and Soundwave's activities on Earth—which directly paves the way for Dark of the Moon.

Overview[]

Convergence deals with two story threads that eventually intertwine. The first follows Soundwave and those working under him. His absence from the conflict between the Decepticons and Autobots up to this point is explained, as he is revealed to have been temporally displaced. The story also establishes that Soundwave has had extensive communications with The Fallen, and sets up his working relation with the Gould family. The second story thread follows Bill Simmons after his capture by the traitor Joe Danco in the aftermath of the Sector 7 miniseries.

Convergence is notable for patching up numerous plot holes between the previously established Movie lore and Revenge of the Fallen, ultimately leading into the then recently-released Dark of the Moon film. Prominent among these is the Fallen's escape from his sarcophagus, and a concrete explanation as to why so many Transformers-related events taking place in the distant past "just so happen" to gravitate towards Earth. The series also gives a brief glimpse into Seymour Simmons's childhood, which had been left mostly unexplored otherwise. Barber is able to neatly tie up pretty much every plot hole and discrepancy in the movie franchise, just in time for the looming, then-apparent end of the movie franchise with Dark of the Moon.
